Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy that was developed by Francine Shapiro to resolve trauma-related disorders caused by exposure to distressing events such as rape, military combat, motor vehicle accidents or other life threatening events. According to Shapiro's theory, when a traumatic or distressing experience occurs, it may overwhelm usual thought processes and or coping mechanisms. The goal of EMDR therapy is to process these distressing memories, reducing their lingering influence and allowing clients to develop more adaptive coping mechanisms . www.emdr.com
Clinical Hypnosis is an excellent primary or adjunct tool of therapy that has been used successfully for many years. Hypnosis is not a therapy by itself it is a method of influencing a client and is used in conjunction with therapy. The models I have been trained to use hypnosis with are Brief Therapy and Strategic Therapy. When properly applied by a trained clinician hypnosis can be highly effective in an amazingly short period of time.
